    OPF2 "Where are We Going?"

I just read this in an article.  I think this is the first time anyone has ever expressed the feeling of being in game as you'll see from the following quotes.  I also wanted to get an idea if anyone is going to be moving to this game. I think that everyone here will benefit from a group decision & since a DR will be released I would like to see all available members download install & take a few challenges as a group so that some of us do not get left in the cold with 1/2 interest.

Let's make a group effort to test out the game with our diverse hardware & provide a UGC opinnion.  I know this will also help visiting readers & potentially bring new tallent to our community.

    Quotes:

"And it just feels real. For example, as I was sprinting for cover in that enemy village, I noticed a Seahawk overhead; it was actually providing cover with its chain gun. But I only caught it in the corner of my eye, as the sensation of running almost feels like you're watching combat footage taken by a guy who is running with the camera." - Jason Ocampo

"This is an FPS in name only – there'll be no twitch jumping and regenerative health here. You'll be given a combat scenario and tasked with assaulting a target however you choose, and you'll need to think tactically and cooperate with your team if you want to complete the mission." - IGN Staff

Well,  I hope to get feedback from everyone on weather or not they are going to take an interest in the game as this will affect my next software / hardware purchase...

Will You Participate in Operation Flashpoint 2 (Demo Testing)

Operation Flashpoing 2 will release DR (Demo) within the next Month or 2. In order to ensure that the game is going to meet the community standard we would like to know who is going to make an effort to test out the game as a community. Since the Title of our community represents a bunch of gamers whom unite to work towards a goal I would hope to see some participation in the poll!!!

Members,  Site Users & Guests are welcome to work with us in Teamspeak @ ts2.ugcgamers.com while testing out DR as it becomes available...

    This is my plan:

    1. I'm going to hold my breath, and probably die before, and wait for the system requirements are to be released.
    2. I'm going to price the game and see if it's economically feesable to purchase said product.
    3. I'm going to hold out for about a week to see if you guys are going to actually going to make the switch.
    4. I'm going to get jealous of all the fun it sounds like you guys are having.
    5. I'm going to debate like crazy how much my marriage is worth.
    6. I'm going to run out like an idiot and buy it anyway.
    7. I'm going to get uber-pissed because I will install the game, only to find that most of you have reverted back to 2142...

    Tried and True....2142

I'm not going to let this happen to our group this time.  Anyone with an interest in Operation Flashpoin 2 or ARMA2 should post up here. These are going to be 2 heavy competitors as they both have a steak in the same market.

First, we need to make it a point to test out the demo with serious objectivity...

I've added a poll to the primary post in this thread above.  If you all feel the poll needs to be locked or moved to it's own thread let me know!!! However, we need to see interest from the community & that includes both current member, visitor & friends alike!!!

Well Redline you know I am going to get it and play it, I have been with you on this from the start and I will defintely play Operation Flashpoint 2. I am just hoping that this game doesnt do the same thing that Frontlines did. I got all hyped up and the game ended up being crap.

I am in!  Hopefully it will drive me to have to build a new machine disguised to my wife as HD compatibable workstation for editing those home videos.

I'm in only if I don't have to do a major upgrade to the computer.

Re: OPF2 "Where are We Going?"

The only example I can give you both is this.  When OPF (Operation Flashpoint) was originally released many returned to the stores to make a purchase...

If you want to know how much can happen in a single year look at Battlefield Vietnam & Battlefield 2 (Dare I say they don't feel like they belong in the same generation?)...

Note: I don't know if you all remember or not but the big thing was that the hitbox wasn't an entire Helli but actual parts of the Helli & one of the hooks was in a trailer that showed the missile actually fly through the Helli's center. Let me tell ya though.  Watch the trailers if you want to see how critical teamwork was you can see it in the videos.

Note 2: DC at it's time was nice but it has nothing over BF2 or 2142. Most of you still playing do the Air maps in which suck because it ruins the game and gives you one option.  Fly or Die (No Teamwork).  The original DC players didn't spend all day doing the same thing in the same maps with the same planes killing people walking the ground!!!

Probably won't see DC Folks here because your still playing a game with the previous decades technology... These are the guys that talk about physics (What Physics). Your Physics!!!

     Enjoy

I just wanted to add a video for everyone to check out.  It's pretty good information regarding performance & give knowleage that they are leveraging the engine for performance:

Every time I have tried to run a test version, it crashed, or the key didn't work.  Don, if we are going to do this, let's get about 10 people to do it together.  If this game takes out the rediculous global score/unlock scenario from the mix, I am all in.  I would love to see a game that was about the TEAM rather than the individual points.  Point grubbing whores have destroyed the communities and servers...We have to actually pay to populate our servers so that our own members will play at home.  These games have changed the community dynamic from the users to the developers, and it sucks!  The best game I have played recently is Wookie, because points don't matter at all...it's just fun gaming.  We need more of this.

Maybe what they need to do in regard to points is to give them only to the team that wins.  This will force teamwork.  No win, no points!

Re: OPF2 "Where are We Going?"

    Absolutely Correct Norton,

The problem these days is that there is money involved with point systems.  The lone wolves love them and the Team Oriented Communities like ourselves dispise that they point to the individual.  If they could only develop a team oriented system... No Win No Points is a definate way to force gameplay and competitiveness but sometimes a squad plays well and losses because others don't even form squads.

One thing different about this game is that it's on the platoon level.  You have 32 players with 16 on each side whom control 256 AI Bot's that use a playbook & sequences given by a squadleader ( 32 Live Humans). I did read that a squad could actualy end up being 40 or more players being controlled by a single squad leader & so my assumption is that once your squad is gone you become a live bot for the remaining squadleader with available AI for you to spawn but it's not a requirement and the AI will work without a squadleader after a given perios of time or something like that... I've also read in previews that success is impossible without tactics and teamwork....

Quote: "This is an FPS only in Name"

It is of course an fps but it's using some really exciting features that remain to be seen by the public.  We'll need to test this when a Demo is available with as many bodies as possible. Otherwise, it's going to be a waste of time drawing us back to old faithfull.

P.S. I also read the game will have co-op with 8 players so you could actually get a bit of experience prior to going live as well.

    Great Comments Fellas!!!

Great googly moogly.... if you want team play NOW, all you have to do is download the latest Project Reality Mod.  I'm telling you, OPF2 seems like it's just a suped up version of PR....  Wookie is fun, but it's not really team play. I keep hearing these calls for team play.  It team play is what you want, then PR is the route to go, at least for now... Most of the features in OFP2 are the same upgrades in the latest version of PR...  by the way, it also won MOTF mod of the year!
